History ---In the early 20th century Hoosier cabinets were in most every home throughout the Midwest and the rest of the country. They were advertised and sold as kitchen timesavers. Hoosier cabinets were mostly sold between 1900 and 1930. They were believed to be invented by J.S. McQuinn in 1899. At that time he founded the Hoosier Manufacturing Company in New Castle Indiana. The increased popularity of the units saw several other Indiana manufactures start building Hoosier cabinets in the early 1900s. Other Manufactures were, McDougall, Sellers, Napanee, and Castle.
In a Hoosier Cabinet, there typically are numerous drawers and doors including racks for storing food preparation utensils as well as dishes. These cabinets also had large storage bins for flour and sugar as well as metal lined bread bins.
